Account Activation

Follow these instructions to activate your Union account. Please note that the account activation process is easiest when done on a computer or laptop.

1. Download the Microsoft Authenticator app from the store on your smartphone. Note that if using an Apple device, you will need to take additional steps to Allow Notifications.


2. While the app is downloading, please go to the following link and log in using your Union email address and password sent in the Account Activation email: https://Aka.ms/mfasetup

3. Once signed in, click Next on the "More Information Required" screen.

4. Click Next on the "Microsoft Authenticator" screen (this was completed in Step 1 above).

5. Click Next on the "Setup Your Account" screen.

6. You should now be prompted to scan a QR code.



7. On your smartphone, open the Microsoft Authenticator app which you downloaded in Step 1.

8. In the Authenticator app, click Add New Account and choose Work or School Account. Make sure to allow the app to access your camera and push notifications. Note that if using an Apple device, you will need to take additional steps to Allow Notifications.

9. Your smartphone will go into camera mode, and you will scan the QR code on your computer screen.

10. Once the code is scanned, click Next where you will receive a test notification to approve on your smartphone

11. On the following screen, enter your phone number and choose to receive a code via text or phone call. Click Next to receive the code.


12. On the following screen, you should see that your account has been successfully activated. You can proceed to log in to www.office.com where you will find links to web versions of Outlook (E-mail), Teams, and Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel). Full time students and faculty/staff will also find an "Install Office" option for installing Microsoft Office on a personal device. You can also choose to update your profile picture.

13. (Optional but recommended) To make future sign-ins easier, open authenticator on your mobile device, choose your Union Commonwealth University account and click “Enable phone sign-in”. Follow the prompts to register your device.
